2013: The Year of Reading Proust

I have recently learned of a Proust reading group that begins the novel next year. It should be a good opportunity to read the novel with many supportive readers. http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/75460-2013-the-year-of-reading-proust

I should love to participate in sprome exchange regarding Proust’s Remembrances… as long as it’s not in the pompous, self agrandizing format proposed by M. Everett. He is not looking for an exchange, but to put himself at the center of the stage. This is not what I am looking for.

Jean, I could not disagree more. M. Everett has been consistently welcoming and graciously engaging in our exchanges. Maybe I have only read the sparkling facet facing me…..

Thanks for posting this link. I will definitely check it out. I’ve been looking for an online community of Proust readers. Hopefully I’m not too green — as a first timer — for the Goodreads group.

I came by your blog by searching for The Bible of Amiens. I then saw you’re using the 2013 schedule of reading Proust on the Goodreads site. I just wondered how one goes about joining that group, as I very much lack an outlet for my love of Proust, and being in a Proust-ive milleu, among similarly ardent Proust fans, is an idea that thrills me.

Any advice you could offer would be gratefully received.

Go to goodreads.com, click on Explore and then on Groups. You should be able to find the Proust group and ask permission to join.

I just joined this Goodreads group, and although this is my second reading of Proust, and although I am a maniacal Proustophile, I am already learning so much from the people in the group. It is well worth the joining.

I am a member of the group and read the cumulative posts, which are often interesting. I’ve been reading other things lately and have decided not to re-read the novel just now. I just finished Proust’s Library, though, and will write a couple of posts on that. (But they will contain “spoiler” information.)

Is there a group that meets physically near Venice. CA???

I also want to start at begining, any suggestions?? Are libraries involved?

    • Jim Everett Says:

The Proust Society has an ongoing reading group, but that’s in NYC. Goodreads has a “Year of Reading Proust” reading group that got started this year in January. They are half-way through now, but all the past posts are available and you would be welcome to join at any time. Or you could start a group at your library. Let me know if I can help.

I myself am more of a solitary reader. Sorry I couldn’t help more.
